I decided to have chatgpt analyze the information you garnered and account for the differences in cost of living.

After the usual caveats about differences between specific locations, etc, this is what I got:

After adjusting for cost of living, the effective “power” of the U.S. salary still remains several times greater (maybe ~3× to ~5× more) for similar lifestyle (holding other things equal).

So: cost?of?living does offset a large part of the 15× difference, but not enough to make them equal.
