You take some personal risks but benefit the community overall

A few months ago David Frum asserted that the way to reduce gun violence is by convincing ordinary, “responsible” handgun owners that their weapons make them and those around them less safe, which is odd, because he also notes that unintended shootings only account for 1 percent of U.S. gun deaths.

Steve Sailer says out loud what none of us are supposed to say and then continues with this:

One reason that America has surprisingly few Clockwork Orange–style home invasions with urban criminals driving out to the boonies to attack locals is because Boonie-Americans tend to be so well-armed.

For example, even in the 1990s when South-Central Los Angeles was like Grand Theft Auto, Los Angeles’s white and Asian suburbs were pretty safe. Here’s somebody’s current list of the safest municipalities in California. The safest city in Los Angeles County is lovely Rancho Palos Verdes overlooking the Pacific. Rancho Palos Verdes is 22 miles from Compton. In lightly armed England, that would be a sitting duck for inner city criminals to drive out.

Being a law-abiding legal gun-owner is like being vaccinated, Sailer reminds us: you take some personal risks but benefit the community overall.

What’s odd about it? Frum’s business is selling policy ideas. Do you think the guy at the Ford dealership really spends a lot of time challenging his own claims that he’s got a better product than the Toyota guy across the street? No. He’s got cars to sell.

Years ago, I drove a visitor from the Middle East around the suburbs and countryside of my beautiful Rust Belt city. He observed, that in his country, one felt safe in the cities, but you feared going into the exurbs, as you would be at the mercy of bandits and other lawless types. He admired the fact that we had managed to reverse that order, which has held for most of human history.

“…David Frum asserted that the way to reduce gun violence is by convincing ordinary, “responsible” handgun owners that their weapons make them and those around them less safe…”

A total shill. Using statistics improperly or ignoring them altogether. But the pro-gun people are really not using the most valuable statistics. None of them are correlating the true reason behind gun violence.

If you look at the real reasons it’s. Bass boats.

    More bass boats less crime.

If you look at where bass boat ownership is highest you will see way less crime. It’s the bass boats and has always been.

If the poor could have access to bass boats, and bass, crime would plummet. People would be happier, clothes would be brighter and children would be healthier. It was always the bass boats.

Frum favors gun ownership for Israelis, but not ordinary Americans. Without getting all ((( ))) about it, that really tells you all you need to know. In my experience, most people of Frum’s persuasion are either fanatically pro-second amendment (for pretty obvious reasons having to do with mid-century events in Germany), or, more illogically, fanatically against it. It’s easy to see where Frum falls. Of course, logic never was his strong point.

“Frum favors gun ownership for Israelis, but not ordinary Americans. Without getting all ((( ))) about it, that really tells you all you need to know.”

Exactly 100%. For my tribe it is perfectly OK. There are good reasons. For the rest of you there is no reason.

The one fact that gun control advocates don’t want you to know is the overwhelming majority of murder victims in the US are criminals. I first learned this startling fact when reading a USA Today article more than 20 years ago, https://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/nation/2007-08-31-criminal-target_N.htm .

An examination of Baltimore murder victims showed that 74-91% had criminal records. Things haven’t changed much. If you don’t have a criminal record, the odds of you being murdered are only 10-25% of the national average, making you just about as safe from murder as in any European country with strict gun control.

  7. Sam J. says:

They could collapse the number of murder victims if they would just enforce the laws we have, Felons are not supposed to have guns and if, as we have at times, given them steep jail sentences for carrying them then they would not. That’s what they did in New York City. They frisked people constantly, basically looking for guns and when they found them it was to the slammer.

Where ever you see a lot of gun violence you will see DA’s letting felons go with lenient sentences for violating parole and carrying guns.
