Americans have Delta Group. Russians have Alpha Group. In Alpha Group, they take their confidence drills to another level:

That reminds me of the post where you cited Suvorov on how Spetsnaz recruits get accustomed to blood.

    Both are truly scary.

  2. Alrenous says:

    “Risks are too great.”

Probably shouldn’t be doing silly things like going to war, then.

I’m sorry, what was a military for again?

There is a question of efficacy. Pointless risks are not bravery, but stupidity.

Let me ask any warriors this: if you had to go to war, and be responsible for protecting your comrades and squadmates, would you want to pass these tests beforehand, or not?

Funny anecdote: a teacher who was a soldier in the Slovenian Territorial Defense told us how he and his buddy wondered what that whistling was, while standing guard the first day of the civil war here. It turned out they were shot at! They had never been on the other side in training…

  4. Marc Pisco says:

    Alrenous,

Vickers trains civilians. In a video that’s really a sales tool for his training business — “train with the guy who’s so tacticoolioawesome he hangs out with REAL SPETSNAZ DUDES” — he’s telling potential customers he won’t sell them the product they see on the screen, and why. But give him your money anyway, because cool-by-association. Lol.

It’s marketing for a commercial product.

I would hope our special forces do higher risk stuff than Vickers can reasonably do in a weekend course with a lot of middle aged accountants and maybe some cops. Larry Vickers isn’t in charge of SF training in the US.

    [blink] [blink]

    Wow.

  6. Alrenous says:

    Marc Pisco,

I see. Well, I can’t blame a dude for making a buck off public ignorance and narcissism. It’s not his responsibility.

  7. Marc Pisco says:

    Alrenous,

It’s theoretically possible that there are reasons other than ignorance and narcissism for learning to shoot, but I agree, that’s certainly the most reasonable assumption.

  8. Alrenous says:

Smells like sarcasm. So, I must clarify.

If the ad appeals to you because SPETZNAZ LOL then you’re not learning self-defence for reasons of self-defence. Serious candidates need not apply to Vickers.
