Marines defending Patrol Base Georgetown

This video of Marines defending Patrol Base Georgetown, in Kajaki, Afghanistan, is making the rounds.

The Marines wake up to find themselves under direct fire from “snipers” and indirect fire (“IDF”) from 30-mm grenade launchers (“thirty mike-mike”). It looks like one or two Marines end up wounded from the grenades.

In return, they fire off almost all of their ammo at targets that are, as far as I can tell from the video, invisible. I’m not sure what off-hand double-taps from an M4 carbine are going to do at that range, but the rocket-launcher certainly looks effective.

As usual, the primary challenge seems to be spotting the enemy, and the secondary challenge is hitting the enemy — which is much easier with a grenade-launcher than with a bullet.
