John Derbyshire went to the ATM to get some cash recently, and he hopes this isn’t a leading indicator.:
Pressed the button for $200. Got four fifties.
That’s the first time I’ve ever had anything but twenties from an ATM.
Time to buy a wheelbarrow?
My pattern: take out a lot more, a lot less frequently. ($3 fee, my ass.) I figured it used to empty out the machine, requiring them to take losses on lost usurious fees, or at least manually fill it more often.
Now, i.e. past year or so: it’s all $50s. Everytime.
There’s one ATM locally that will give 100s and 20s for amounts over 200. So if I get 300, it’ll give me 2 100s and 5 20s. It’s a USBank machine on a drive-thru lane at a branch, other USBank machine just give 20s.
