This month, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida will offer 3,000 doctors the option to be reimbursed for online medical consultations, using secure, password-protected ‘webVisits’ to treat everything from cold and flu symptoms to muscle aches and allergies. The Florida plan, which will be available to patients this winter, is one of a growing number of efforts to encourage doctors and patients to conduct more of their nonurgent health-care business online, cutting the frequency of expensive office visits.
