Just 9% of adults were online in 1995. The technology boom of the 1990s sent the online population soaring to 63% in 2000. But in the last two years, the number of Internet users rose only slightly to 67%, according to the latest Harris Poll.Though overall usage has leveled off, users already on the Internet are adopting new technology. Some 27% of users have signed up for high-speed, broadband connections, up from just 22% last year. Still, for many the online world remains perplexing: More than a quarter of those who responded to the survey said they didn’t know what kind of Internet connection they have.
