Shooting down a small drone — or a large remote-controlled model airplane — with a machine-gun might seem easy, but it’s much harder in real life than in a video game like Call of Duty:
I doubt the hobbyists at Arizona’s Big Sandy Machine Gun Shoot are experts, but neither are most insurgents — or soldiers, for that matter. On the other hand, I doubt most drones are flying evasively, either.
On the other other hand, a drone might very well be shooting at them.
Was that a dual MG-42 mount I saw at the end there? My jealousy is inflamed…
That’s why AA-flack cannons were invented 100 years ago: to shoot down fast-moving targets easier. Out with the MG and in with the Bofors.
