Mencius Moldbug likes to play the arch-conservative, and he quips that the last few centuries of democracy will one day be called “something cool,” like the Anglo-American Interregnum:

As in the late Roman period, declining official authority, declining personal morality, and increasing public bureaucracy are observed in synchrony. This is not in any way a coincidence.
