Shawn Ryan interviews Erik Prince — who’s close to a real-life Bruce Wayne — about the rise and fall of Blackwater:

  1. Adept says:

That video is over three and a half hours long.

Video can be characterized by extremely low speed/density of verbal information, so it is particularly poor for interviews. If there’s a decent transcript, the good parts would probably take just 10 minutes to parse and read — rather than 220 minutes to watch and listen!

I think that people should refuse to watch long interview videos on principle. I don’t understand the appeal at all.

  2. Isegoria says:

I agree that sitting down to watch hours of video isn’t the best way to absorb that material. I listened to the audio version while doing other things.

  3. Kunning Drueger says:

I wonder how much valuable information is just lost to the aether because folks like “adept” lack the patience to obtain it. This interview would not have occurred in any other format because of the resonant sentiment about the interviewee.

The video is broken up into chapters, and a valid criticism of the channel could be that the video itself should be parceled up by chapter. Urging people to refuse to watch long form interviews is as stupid as it is unrealistic. It’s akin to admonishing illiterates to read better books.
