The inventor who plans to build a city under the sea

Phil Nuytten has built submarines and diving suits, but now he’s planning to build a city under the sea:

An underwater city is cool, but I’m not sure how much sense it makes. He does mention siting it on a thermal vent though, for “free” energy via a Stirling engine.

  1. Phil B says:

So he wants to site it over a thermal vent.

That would be the tip of a volcano heating the water which is likely to erupt some time in the future or it is a fissure in the sea bed that may be the edge of a tectonic plate. Which moves and causes earthquakes…

What could possibly go wrong, eh?

  2. Jack Wynand says:

I’m sure this city will be fine so long as they can extract enough ADAM from sea slugs and then splice themselves up with plasmids.

  3. Albion says:

I like the picture of the underwater city. But what are the people doing outside?

    Gardening? Probably not.

    Repairing leaks? Very, very important.

Using up precious oxygen supplies unnecessarily? Oh, wait…

Also, what’s the TV reception like down there?
