Isegoria, you might want to check that link. Unless this is a very “in” joke, it probably shouldn’t point to the classic Wind in the Willows by Graeme.
Ah, I guess “in” is in the eye of the beholder. I thought it was cute to reinterpret the classic children’s novel as post-apocalyptic steampunk, where the talking animals were genetically engineered to be that way, and there were no humans because they’d been wiped out.
Yeah, it is cute. Funny. Most jokes don’t get better once explained.
(But being pointed to A. Reynolds is a good find in itself, and I may start with House of Suns.)
