Have you ever wondered, what happened to that Afghan Girl with the deep, penetrating, green eyes who was on the cover of National Geographic years ago?
It was 1985, and Sharbat Gula was 12 or 13 years old, when she had her photo taken. When they hunted her down again after 9/11, it was 2002, 17 years later.
The years had not been kind. At all.
“She’s now the married mother of three girls and living in a remote ethnic Pushtun region of Afghanistan with her family.”
Note: 17 years later, in 2002, she’s perhaps 30 years old.
