Thomas Schelling, New Nobel Laureate

Monday, October 10th, 2005

Tyler Cowen notes that his former mentor at Harvard, Thomas Schelling, is a new Nobel Laureate. His contributions:

  1. The idea of precommitment.
  2. The paradox of nuclear deterrence.
  3. Focal points.
  4. Behavioral economics and the theory of self-constraint.
  5. The economics of segregation.

When I heard the news, I dug up my copies of Schelling’s Micromotives and Macrobehavior and The Strategy of Conflict.
