The final phrase, “The future awaits us all in whatever terms we choose.” Horseshit! Then I choose not to die.
The futurists ignore the reality of the physical world. To function humans must engage the physical world constantly in terms of manufacturing, distribution, R&D, getting off your ass, etc. Flinging ones and zeroes doesn’t change the ultimate reality of life, work and death.
There are theories that the physical world is made of information. Every time I’ve been stuck in a traffic jam trying to get to a job. I’ve thought of telecommuting and telepresence. It’s just a much more efficient connection. Engage the physical world via waldos.
The future is not something we can control, but we can negotiate with it. I’m looking for the best terms I can get.
