There is a theory that the relative security of the UK over the past few hundred years is why it has experienced more freedom and less despotism than the countries across the channel.

Does the author believe that England, the homeland of telly loicenses, knife attacks, and Moslem mayors, is still free?

No one wants a socialist police state, but at least Mussolini had style. The United States and Western and Central Europe don’t even have that.

Today, every state in Western Europe, and many in Central Europe, can be classified as a socialist police state, and all are rapidly evolving towards Mussolini’s totalitarian nightmare.

And like France and Germany, and all the others, despotism has settled on Britain. None of them have freedom of speech, or assembly, or of the press, or of religion. Everywhere in Europe people are imprisoned for criticizing politicians and privileged groups. People are arresting on suspicion of silently praying in the streets. Court sentences depend on you race and politics, not on your crime.

Ironically, if there is any remnant of European democracy, or rule of law, or liberalism, or Christianity, it resides in Russia.
