Also, this incident obviously was an incentive to develop reconnaissance drones. Starting with unsubtle Lockheed D-21 and Tu-123 “Yastreb”, more like cruising missiles with spy plane payload.

I will be shocked if it turns out any of those things did not have very reliable self-destruct systems.
