They were designed as a stand-off/ambush type vehicle. It was not expected to be used in a direct assault. As with other examples of German machinery it showed a fetish for overly complex engineering (Petrol/Electric Drive) combined with a common issue with mid to late war German tanks: Massive weight gain from The Leader demanding more armor and bigger guns tied to a powertrain that was overtaxed to move the damned thing.  

The true Tiger tanks were armed with a co-axial machine gun in the turret and one in the front of the hull.]]></description>
