Different situations, but in one key sense they are the same; the children of that same priesthood, banging the same drum of proclaiming doom on a more masculine faction they are opposed too.

Morality aside, I believe that it was a geopolitical mistake (from the Russian standpoint) for Putin to invade Ukraine, but it’s way, way too early to predict Russian defeat. Having grown up reading article discussing how the defeat of the Communists in vietnam was “inevitable” after the Tet offensive, I’ll withhold judgement until Russia actually loses a battle…

The United States were never democracies. The Founding Fathers hated and feared democracy, and for good reason. A good rule of thumb is that anyone who waxes poetic about democracy or democratic values or who we are wants to see you lying facedown in a mass grave.

Mr. Hu apparently spends too much time listening to Western Main Stream Media:

“However, the blitzkrieg failed, and Russia is unable to support a protracted war and its associated high costs.”

The original German blitzkrieg against France in WWII took 6 weeks. It seems a little early to be pronouncing the operation in the Ukraine a failure.

One of Mr. Hu’s comments suggests that he also spends a lot of time listening to Chinese Main Stream Media:

“At present, public opinion believes that the Ukrainian war signifies a complete collapse of U.S. hegemony…”

Presumably, that should be “Chinese” public opinion.

Perhaps Mr. Hu was trying to inject a note of caution into Chinese discourse about the situation in the Ukraine? But he has had as much success with that as anyone in the West who departs from the official line here of Rah! Rah! Noble Ukrainians are kicking Russian Ass.

I still suspect that, once Russia has achieved its military objectives in the Ukraine, China will step forward as the only viable “neutral” mediator in the world and cut a deal. Ukraine gets de-militarized & partitioned; Russian forces withdraw; a large force of Chinese peacekeepers are permanently stationed in the Ukraine to ensure that NATO & Russia stay out; and China invests in rebuilding the Ukraine.

Well, it is either that or nuclear war which destroys the US, Europe, & Russia — and leaves China once more as the world’s essential Middle Kingdom.
