Obsidian glass was better than chert in the stone age for cutting tools. Well worth trading or raiding, whether from Aztecs or Minoans.

Minoans had a big trading society across the Med to trade obsidian glass. At around the time their trading society was blown apart by Thera, iron from what is now Bulgaria spread around. Or bronze did. Or the times don't match up at all. I don't know. I'd like to see this studied extensively, but it won't be because boys like Ax stuff, whether obsidian or iron. Today's archaeologists get the heebie jeebies about stuff boys like.

Yeah, okay.

Why is obsidian glass important in this context?

What is the relationship between obsidian glass, this time period, and then-Bulgarians' iron tools?

What about this juxtaposition gives archaeologists the heebie jeebies?

Buckethead,

Your summary of Killing Star sounds like it could've been lifted directly from The Dark Forest. Are you suggesting that Chinaman Liu Cixin merely copied and elaborated a pre-existing idea?

More seriously, does anyone know the origin of this science fiction ethos? I'm willing to bet it doesn't pre-date 1970, but I don't know how or why.

Before Thera blew, the Minoans sold obsidian glass all around the Med.
I think it reasonable to point out that the BIG difference, the deciding factor, between Europe and the Americas civilization was Iron tools. From iron tools much, much springs. It would also be reasonable to point out that it's possible that iron processing was accidental or the product of a few odd individuals who then passed it along.

"...The idea the ecosystem is spectacularly dangerous and we need to camouflage is one option..."

I can see that as being a very big possibility.

I'm not sure he's not an agent of some sort feeding us lies but there's a Plasma physicist Dr John Brandenburg Mars that used gamma ray spectrometry data from Mars to say that Mars was nuked by massive possibly over 100 megaton nukes and that the oceans and civilization of Mars was murdered.

https://sciencevibe.com/2017/05/23/was-mars-like-earth-before-it-was-nuked-scientist-says-yes/

His evidence is logical. There's isotopes that shouldn't be there unless there was an atomic reaction but the powers that be are liars. It's possible he's just another foil to convince us aliens are real so they can foist one world government on us when they land their CRISPR modded humans in inertia drive craft to fake us out.

If they can blow up our buildings, look at building &, in the middle of our cities then it's not so far removed that they could do this also.
