So, the loss of knowledge, while sad, probably wasn’t as bad as it could be.

The real loss, though? That’s all the stuff that was not on display, and was still in storage awaiting cataloging and study. That stuff will never make a contribution to human knowledge, now. Which sucks, to say the least.
