When I was in Iraq and Afghanistan, locals would perceive white Americans to be impartial and fair in any tribal dispute. Good disinterested judges, because detached from the situation and too ignorant of the long and ugly history to even know who the true villains were. Basically everybody.

Apropos Free Northerner, I recommend his Passivism and Activism posts. He pointed out a bitter truth:

There is no such thing as right-wing activism. The right needs to avoid activism, as it further legitimizes liberal democracy, which is antithetical to right order, tradition, and right authority.

Case in point, the Tea Party, which was successful activism, yet its only legacy is a straw man for the establishment to beat. On balance it was counterproductive for the cause.
