I've grown organic tomatoes and homegrown ones do taste better than hothouse ones.

The taste difference is not an enormous margin and for the mass of people these days with fairly numb palates, they probably won't care. Canadian hothouse tomatoes in particular are really good.

And Grasspunk, I smell diatribe too. Most probably either a dislike for the "organic" culture, fear of higher prices or a subtle realization that there are way too many people to feed with organic means

This reminds me of the old Star Trek where some visitors get all their daily nutrition from a pill and Scotty takes one and gets him well fed on fantastic food and drunk on Scotch.

Kinda weak that she's using tomatoes as an example, things that have been grown in hothouses for a very long time. A really intensive crop to grow. She's cherry tomato picking.

I'm not really getting her point — it seems a diatribe against organic hand-picked tomatoes in the farmers market. Like big deal, that's a tiny portion of the market.
