Many "right-wing" people are not liberal, and many "left-wing" people are liberal on matters other than economics, redistribution, and property rights.

One element of liberalism is the belief that it is good for people to satisfy their preferences. That if someone wants something, they should get it. (As long as it doesn't "harm" anyone else — exactly what counts as "harm" is a matter of great controversy.)

Many "right-wing" religious people do not agree with this. In traditional Christianity, the fact that you want something has nothing to do with whether it is moral, or good for you (i.e. good for your soul). "Right-wing" Christians might support property rights and low government spending, but not necessarily from liberalism.

Many left-wing people are liberals. They want people to be able to fulfill their preferences. Fulfillment of preferences is seen as purely good (even if it often makes people unhappy). The state taking money from rich people and giving it to poor people is seen as good because it enables more people to fulfill their preferences.

So when, for example, the "religious right" criticises "left-wing liberalism", they might be using the word correctly.
