Several people, myself included, pointed out that Rangel had introduced this exact same bill multiple times before, it had failed every time, and that it was pretty clear he was doing it as a gimmick and possibly to divert attention from certain scandals he was involved in, as opposed to anything anybody should be seriously worried about.

Mr. Poretto went even more overboard in vituperation directed at the people pointing this out, up to and including deleting our comments outright.

A couple months or so later, Rangel’s bill met the same fate as all his previous attempts. I noted this in a calm and matter-of-fact short comment. Once again Mr. Poretto became very upset, and deleted the comment.

He has never explained this behavior. The closest he ever came was a comment on WRSA directed at me which was the sort of language you might expect from an angry 13-year-old.

I make a point of bringing this up repeatedly, because one thing I’ve learned is that whenever someone goes absolutely nuts for no apparent reason on a particular topic or person, they will do it again sooner or later. You can be an observer and think “Huh, wow, that was a bit over the top, maybe he had a bad day”, and that seems reasonable, right up until the nutcase has randomly turned his attentions to you.

And also, the plain fact is the man owes me an apology.
