For journalists unpayable social state, buying votes with promises that can’t fulfilled, is not populism. It is called social responsibility.

It’s policies designed to benefit one specific, usually politically well connected, segment of the population disguised as policies to benefit the “common good” that people object to. That is to say, the type of policies favored by the editorial staff of the “Atlantic” magazine.
