When the police were controlling the riots (round 1), the media decided that the “militarized police thugs were provoking the violence by frustrating the peaceful protestors”. Round 2 the police stood back and let the stores burn, and the media demanded to know “where was the National Guard”.

I’m pretty sure that if the police had sniped the protest leaders early on the media would now be demanding investigations, trials, convictions and the death penalty for everybody involved.
