Sturgeon's Law: most people in favour of Scottish independence are morons; most people against Scottish independence are morons. So you can't just look at what the morons want and do the opposite.

On the "No" side we have the united British establishment. I have not heard a single public figure in England call for independence.

On the "Yes" side, in Scotland, apart from the SNP we have a rag-bag of communists: Greens, poets, etc.

From a strategic point of view it seems very silly to allow another independent country on this island. Unfortunately we appear to have a binary choice between that or continuing to subsidise the Scots. Only Scots get to vote in the referendum; I have heard many Englishmen joke that if the referendum was restricted to English voters, we'd vote to kick them out.

Perhaps the thing to do is to let them go, on the grounds that we could conquer them in future if we become worthy again.

Yes, in theory an independent Scotland could have rational government, but in practice an independent Scotland would be more likely to go full Leftard. Everybody knows you never go full Leftard.
