This is why Neocons, for all their intelligence, so often get things wrong; they jam everything into this black hat-white hat dichotomy, where our side represents the Forces of Light, and the enemy represents the Dark Forces (and of course, the Left does the same thing, only with the hats reversed). Hell, even WWII and the Cold War, which fit this paradigm a lot better, were not that simple and clear-cut, let alone WWI.
