Someone who can step back some of the several disasters in the plot and make the alterations convincing.

It is all a matter of perspective, and a strong author can work wonders in re-framing perspective in the middle of a story.

The five volumes of the series leave all the characters stranded in mid-story, and Martin himself is too old to finish the series, which would require another five volumes.
