May you ask the same questions, Faze and Cargosquid, with the same well tempered equanimity, when the time comes — and it's coming my friend, count on it — to arc-light your homes and neighborhoods, your families and friends?

As the flesh peels from the bones of your nearest and closest, you can shake your mock-heroic fist at the skies and cry, "finally someone gets it!"

Perfect example: Fallujah.

We removed, to the best of our ability, every non-combatant.

We then reduced the city due to house to house fighting which included entire building being booby-trapped by the insurgents and artillery used to take out snipers.

Why didn't we just "arclight" the place or use a neutron bomb first? Less casualties to us. And in the case of the Neutron bomb, less overall damage to the city.

We rebuilt the damn thing anyway? So why NOT let the Air Force use it as a target?

Here's something I think about: After the Chinese entry into the Korean War, General McArthur wanted to nuke Peking -- among the attitudes that got him sacked from his command. But what if his view had prevailed and the UN had nuked Peking? It might have killed a million people or even ten million people. But if might have also killed Mao and the Communist leadership, and spared China the famines and cultural revolution of the 1960s that killed (some say) as many as 40 million. If you were one of those 40 million who died under Mao, you might think it wasn't a bad exchange. Makes you wonder.
