This conflates firecrackers (atomic fission bombs) with high explosives (fusion bombs set off by atomic fission bombs). There was a wide range of outcomes for atomic war between 1945-c. 1953 and early thermonuclear war c. 1949-1964 that only disappeared with the onset of true mutual assured destruction with mature ballistic missiles and Soviet thermonuclear parity in the mid-1960s.
