Freedom is being held responsible for your own actions.

For example, when the president promises more social security than taxpayers can in fact afford, taxpayers suffer the consequences, not the president. Whether they voted for him or not.

First corollary, it is suspicious for anyone to promise things they cannot be held personally responsible for.
