Our psyche is not capable of admitting that it was, in essence, just 19 nobodies with a support group that did this to us. No phantom menace of the Japanese Empire this time. No massive organization behind this that compares to the evil done. Just 19 losers who blew themselves up and took 3,500 people with them.

We simply cannot accept that such horrible crimes do not have a more worthy malefactor behind them. An unorganized rabble of cavemen just wasn’t enough of a boogey-man for us, so many of us went all “grassy knoll” on 9/11 and demanded that there be more — anything at all — behind it than what it really was.
