Psychology studies usually focus on trivial, non-conceptual, non-skill learning &#8212; such as memorizing and recognizing lists of nonsense syllables or individual words, comprehension of passages, etc. 

But &lt;em&gt;real&lt;/em&gt; learning &#8212; of stuff that makes a difference &#8212; i.e. learning new concepts and skills &#8212; is something that needs focus, repetition, chunks of dedicated time etc.
