Robert Peal believes that education has grown Progressively Worse. Here he shares his favorite education quotations:
“I want to see State education improved, but this can only be achieved when misplaced ideologies, particularly the egalitarian ethos, are banished from our schools.”
— C. B. Cox“If one wants to be a political progressive, one needs to be an educational conservative.”

— Gilbert K. Chesterton“A preference for good over evil is a preference that must if possible be learned in the playground and classrooms of nursery school and primary school.”
— Mary Warnock“The teacher who uses poor social conditions as an excuse for poor teaching is the cause of greater deprivation than the home background itself.”
— C. B. Cox“I am a liberal, yet I am a liberal tempered by experience, reflection and renouncement.”
— Matthew Arnold“At primary school children are taught nothing; at secondary school they discuss what they have been taught.”
— Kingsley Amis“Dare anyone call Permissiveness
An educational success:
Saner those class-rooms that I sat in,
Compelled to study Greek and Latin.”

— David Conway“We live in a thought world, and that thinking has gone very bad indeed.”
— Allan Bloom“Relativism has extinguished the real motive of education, the search for a good life.” Allan Bloom
“Culture seeks to do away with classes; to make the best that has been thought and known in the world current everywhere; to make all men live in an atmosphere of sweetness and light.”
— Matthew Arnold“Education involves providing answers to questions that the young have not yet asked.”
— Frank Furedi“Education is simply the soul of society as it passes from one generation to another.”
— G. K. Chesterton“The problem of education in the modern world lies in the fact that by its very nature it cannot forgo either authority or tradition, and yet must proceed in a world that is neither structured by authority nor held together by tradition.”
— Hannah Arendt“It seems to me that conservatism, in the sense of conservation, is of the essence of the educational activity.”
— Hannah Arendt“The best education for the best is the best education for all.” Robert
— Maynard Hutchins“What we have loved | Others will love and we will teach them how.”
— William Wordsworth“What I have always loved best about the history of the world is that it is true. That all the extraordinary things we read were no less real than you and I are today. What is more, what did happen is often far more exciting and amazing than anything we could invent.”
— E. H. Gombrich“I distrust orthodoxies. Especially orthodoxies of dissent.”
— John Updike
“The best education for the best is the best education for all.” –Robert Maynard Hutchins
Utter nonsense. Geniuses and dullards require different methods of instruction.
…Or does he mean that society benefits if the smartest people get the best schooling? That I would agree with.
I believe he’s suggesting that a rigorous public-school education — in the English sense, meaning elite-private-school education — should be available to all students, regardless of social class.
