James James: “The property tax for the small holder means he does not really own his land. He is just renting it from the taxing entity.” Yes, that is correct. There is a non-economic difference, in that the government does not get to choose whether to rent to you or not. That would be truly totalitarian, in Nick Szabo’s sense — a single landlord, no pluralism. Mark Wadsworth, a land-tax advocate, says “I never said people shouldn’t be able to own land. Andrew Cowling: Is it because the muscle-bound types all died earlier from heart failure?
Kudzu Bob: T. Greer, The scores would likely remain unchanged. No evidence that I know of exists to suggests that the act of writing makes people smarter. That said, no reason exists why even those who are not especially bright, provided that they are not hopelessly dumb, cannot be taught to write better than is the sorry norm these days.

This article has changed that. (Incidentally, it would be interesting to see IQ scores of kids who have gone through these programs and compare them to kids who have not…)
Gwern: Handle, as I say in my Reddit comment, Szabo was, is, and will be one of the major Satoshi suspects simply because he was working on such similar topics, but the specific claims and research this dude is claiming are hopelessly wrong and do not increase our belief (whatever it was) that Szabo is Satoshi! (Szabo isn’t a perfect candidate, of course. For example, I have been unable to find any C++ code written by him, which is a major prerequisite for being Satoshi. Just a little JS library.)
Slovenian Guest: Speaking of impressive, I present you the Robugtix T8, a gamepad-controlled, 3D-printed octobot that uses a total of 26 servos: Inside Adam Savage’s Cave: Awesome Robot Spider!
Borepatch: “How could they get passed along and end up in high school without understanding how to use the word although?” Is that a trick question?
Handle: I think the Szabo hypothesis has a lot of merit. His Bitgold work from before 2005 is very close to Bitcoin, and few other people were really working as intensely on the same ideas.
